Basset Hound - Small - Young - Female - Dog - Ms. Ellie

Ellie is a Bassett/Plott hound mix. She is spayed and up to date on shots. She is not very large, a little smaller then medium size with short brindled Bassett legs and slightly turned out feet (an A typical Bassett) and long body. She is sweet and very loving. She gets along magnificent with larger dogs, cats and children. Ellie is an owner surrender but the decision to surrender Ellie was not an easy one to make. Ellies adoptive family had 4 Chihuahuas prior to adopting Ellie. Ellie has spent 4 wonderful loving years with this family and got along fabulous with her smaller companions. She was the perfect match. However over the past year, one of the smaller dogs decided that Ellie was no longer a welcome member of the family unit. The confrontations between the 2 dogs have escalated and turned so violent; that the family was forced to make the very emotional and heartbreaking decision to re-home Ellie into a new family unit where she would continue to be loved but more importantly safe from confrontation. She is a little shy at first but with lots of love and affection quickly emerges from her very gentle shell. She interacts with others wonderfully but does better with larger dogs and COULD POSSIBLY work with non-aggressive smaller dogs and/or perhaps puppies. She gets along GREAT with cats. Her previous family shared that one Ellies favorite playmates happened to be a squirrel that came to know Ellie through the backyard. She is truly a gentle kindred canine spirit!! Although Ellie is currently being fostered by RPO, the family wishes to be a part of Ellies new adoption process and is only too happy to share information and wonderful stories of Ellie with new potential adopters. Ellies surrender has not been easy for this family and in fact the choice of which dog to surrender has been emotional and has left some family members very torn. It is their strong desire to assist RPO in whatever way possible to ensure that their beloved Ellie finds the Perfect home so that she can live out the rest of her days with a family that will love and care for her as they have done for the past 4 years.
