Can't adopt but want to help? Please contact adoption_option@verizon.net to find out about sponsorship, fostering, and other ways you can help this animal! Please note that financial sponsorship will be applied to the specific animal you indicate unless it is not needed, at which time we will let you designate it for another HT animal of your choice. You can save animals like Amie & Smiles by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters, so that they have more time to find a permanent family. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please click here and email the questionnaire to fosterdog@homewardtrails.org.I'd like to introduce myself and my dog buddy, Smiles. My name is Amie (pronounced Ahmee) and I am a special cat. You see, Smiles and I have a unique story to tell. We didn't meet until some kind people took us in at a shelter. When my buddy, Smiles, arrived at the shelter, she was doing anything but smiling. Smiles was in shock as she was just hit by a train and was laying on the tracks when animal control swept in and saved her. Her dog pal whom she was with sadly passed away. When she recovered some and arrived after her trip to the shelter vet, I immediately went up to her and introduced my cute cat self and told her I'd watch over her and I've been doing so ever since. Though we haven't been friends long, we are great buddies. Homeward Trails recognized this and decided to take us both into foster care so we can be adopted together. Smiles is doing fantastic with her front paw which had some nerve damage originally as a result of the trauma she experienced. Her paw has full use now, She uses her paw like all her other paws but it is not quite as strong as the other. This does not impact her, as she runs fast, goes up steps and down steps (carefully) and jumps on and off the couch like a champ. Smiles was heartworm positive when we got her into foster care and she has since been treated and now has a clean bill of health. Heartworm, once treated, does not have any long-term effects on a dog. Smiles does not require any further vetting due to her paw or heartworms and is now ready to find a special family who can take her on lots of fun walks which is one of her favorite things outside of power napping! Smiles is a FANTASTIC dog and LOVES people. She loves all cats and is good with most dogs she meets, but cats are her favorite. I love people and attention myself and love to be picked up (Amie). Neither one of us is shy, though, Smiles LOVES kids, I'm a little shy around them at first and we both only want to be around gentle children. We are both strictly indoor cutie-pies. Smiles is housebroken and I never miss my litterbox. Not to toot my own horn but I'm a gorgeous cat with a wonderful personality. Both Smiles and I make our foster mom laugh every day because we are just very silly characters. We are looking for a special home together. If you'd like to learn more, please email Maria at adoption_option@verizon.net. Rental situations can unfortunately not be considered for us and a home visit is part of our process. Oh, and if you are wondering where Smile and I got our names...my name, Amie is French for "faithful friend" and Smiles got her name because when she's really happy she curls her front lips and she shows you her front teeth and it looks like she is smiling at you! The adoption fee for this dog and cat is $425 (for both together), which covers the cost of routine vet care, as well as spay/neuter surgery. If you would like to fill out an adoption questionnaire for this dog, please click here and e-mail the questionnaire to Maria at adoption_option@verizon.net.
