Date Listed: Jun-09-08 Anyone can have a special dream, but so few people do. It is thought that only 3% of the general population ever experience it. A special dream is a dream of a friend or loved-one after they have died. It is described as intense but natural. The dreamer is fully aware of the encounter as it taps deep into the emotions within the relationships that bind the human spirit with the deceased person. The majority of people who have a special dream only experience one type, which is the visual experience of the deceased person. Others had the visual and could also engage in conversation and a small portion experienced multiple sensory contacts during the special dream, including the sense of touch and smell. There is no explanation as to why the dreams differ from one person to another and why the deceased could speak or could be touched, when others could not. Most people have this dream experience only once, but a few reported having more then one experience either with the same person twice or two different dreams involving two different people. Research shows the dream experience usually takes place within a small window of time, most often right after the death and shows no boundaries or limitations in regards to the receiver’s age, sex, race or religion. The dream experience happens regardless how the person died. Accidents, natural causes, diseases or suicide were all included. Special dreams are experienced in a natural sleep state, and not under any influence of hypnosis, alcohol or mind altering drugs. The dream encounter occurs without prior warning or knowledge and lasts only a short time. No matter how much anyone may want to see a deceased person, or how open they are to the spiritual world, these encounters are rare and only occur if granted by a higher power, or depending on your faith, God.
