Custer: The Life of General George Armstrong Custer by Jay Monaghan (copyright 1959). This edition (copyright 1986) is part of The Library of American History from Easton Press. This book, which is no longer available from the publisher, is in very good condition.
Easton Press volumes are among the most beautiful and durable books available today. Each volume is bound in genuine leather with a hubbed spine and accented with 22-karat gold, and printed on acid-neutral paper. The Smyth-sewn pages have gilded edges and are complemented by a sewn-in satin ribbon page marker and distinctive endleaves.
A review by New York Herald Tribune Books says that “with imagination as well as judgment, [Monaghan] tells the story with well-chosen details taken from reliable sources…All together, this is much the best of many Custer books. It brings the reader as close to the real man as any book is likely ever to do.”
