Easton Press volumes are among the most beautiful and durable books available today. Each volume is bound in genuine leather with a hubbed spine and accented with 22-karat gold, and printed on acid-neutral paper. The Smyth-sewn pages have gilded edges and are complemented by a sewn-in satin ribbon page marker and distinctive endleaves.
The first volume, Roosevelt: The Lion and the Fox, published in 1956 and covering the President’s life and career through his second term, won the Tamiment Institute and Woodrow Wilson Foundation Awards, and was widely praised by critics. “That Franklin D. Roosevelt was a master of the fine art of politics, and displayed on occasion qualities of the lion and the fox, is the underlying theme of Mr. Burns’ careful, detailed, and frank analysis of a complex career,” said The Library Journal.
In 1970, Burns published Roosevelt: The Soldier of Freedom, which takes the President through the momentous 1940-45 period. This second volume won the Francis Parkman Prize of the Society of American Historians, the National Book Award for history and biography and the Pulitzer Prize for history.
