Description
Sam the Blue Front Amazon is a low maintenance "lap bird," who'd be ideal for an older gentleman. Sam is about 40 years old, and has been through some tough patches in his life, but, he's a happy and pretty healthy guy for his age and past circumstances. He has cataracts and some old injuries to hisfeet and a wing, so he climbs, perches, and walks using his beak for extra stability. Sam absolutely loves getting head scratches! He also likes to be held up to pretend he is flying or to sit on top of his cage and observe what's going on in the household. He enjoys shredding papers and chewing on bird-safe wood and cardboard. Sam is mostly quiet but sometimes will make little noises when he is very happy. His appetite is good -- though he can't hold food with his feet, he eats gently from the hand or off a plate. In addition to pellets, he likes pine nuts, walnuts, whole-grain bread dipped in mango juice, birdie bread, bananas, shredded carrots, and cooked brown rice. Sam prefers male humans and is congenial with smaller birds. He would do well in a home that has a small gentle bird, such as a cockatiel. He can't defend himself or get away quickly, so he needs a home without cats, dogs, or large birds. For information about Phoenix Landing's adoption process, please email inquiry@phoenixlanding.org.
